Music Education in Hampshire: Engaging Classes for Every Child

Education Through Music offers a range of classes designed to cultivate a love for music in young learners. Our music education in Hampshire and nearby West Sussex, focuses on developmental growth through engaging activities rooted in the principles of Kodály and Dalcroze.

Mini Music Makers
(Ages 2–4)

Through songs, simple rhythms, and movement, children develop listening, co-ordination, and confidence — all while having fun with parents close by.

Music Adventurers
(Ages 5–7)

A playful journey into rhythm and melody. Children learn to feel the beat, sing tunefully, and recognise musical patterns that prepare them for instrumental learning as part of their music education.

Music Stars
(Ages 7–9)

For growing musicians ready for deeper understanding — exploring pitch, sight-singing, part singing, rhythm, and notation and composition through games, movement, and singing together. Suitable for those already learning an instrument or who sing in a choir.

Music Education for Preschool and School-Aged Children

Class sessions are mainly fun singing and movement activities, based on Kodály and Dalcroze teaching principles. Live piano playing and recorded music help the children internalise pulse, rhythm, metre, and more. Read more here: Kodály and Dalcroze – National Youth String Orchestra

Other examples of things we do are moving with scarves to internalise phrasing or using a parachute to reinforce the idea of pitch. We use egg shakers, ankle bells, and claves with the preschool children and more sophisticated instruments with older children.

We also use a ‘magic box’ and sometimes have real orchestral instruments in class for children to experience. The children move from a subconscious understanding to a semiconscious through to a fully conscious understanding of the various elements of music.

Individual Lessons Available

In addition to music education group classes, we offer tailored individual piano and violin lessons, allowing students to gain deeper insights into their chosen instruments while fostering a lasting love for music.
